story. creativity. play.

Stories make up the human experience, it's the oldest tradition, the most important both in the physical world and in our internal world of thoughts every day.

I've found that no matter what kind of story I'm capturing, whether it's a brand, product, process or a personal feature, I feel more alive simply because I am tapping into this sacred human tradition.

My tagline “we are made of stories” is really true. They make who we are, change who we become and connect us all in the end. In my experience of both telling other’s stories and coming to know my own, I have learned that exchanging stories is an important part of living. It's a form of human connection, letting go, keeping memories, experiencing emotions and not to be dramatic, but it can be life changing. :)

You are the one to tell your story, I am simply the vessel.

If you've ever thought to yourself, "I'm not creative," I'm here to tell you you're wrong, definitively.  We are born creative. It’s a matter of allowing, not becoming.

From the moment we enter this world we are curious beings, touching, tasting and listening with wonder, unknowing of how to judge. As we get older we force ourselves into boxes and clutch onto identities that give us a sense of belonging. Creativity diverts from traditional path, it requires a certain level of tapping inward and allowing natural curiosity and process, frequent breaks for rest and a lot of playtime to explore. Slowly it can become something we feel disconnected from out of our need to be efficient, attractive, right.

"Creative" is not a personality type or a career path, it’s much more spiritual than that. It’s a practice of allowing ourselves the space to access our innate creativity. In doing this I truly believe we release ego and judgement and instead, change the outcome of what we put into this world.

Anyway, Elizabeth Gilbert, Julie Cameron, and Rick Rubin write about it best so if that intrigues you, read up!

When was the last time you felt a total loss of time, a giddy effortless sense of joy or contentment? Hopefully a few minutes ago or yesterday, but often the answer is "I don't know."

Play is more than a frivolous attitude or activity, it's a sense of freedom inside. When you lose track of time and feel utterly enthralled with the action at hand, the action is less important. â€‹I'm certainly not the first to say or believe that play is the habit that feeds our creative energy and our truest spirit, the day I found writing supporting this belief I realized it wasn't just an excuse I was making for myself. It's true.

“Serious art is born from serious play.” - Julie Cameron

When we take time to "play," to step into our weird for a moment, we make space to get in touch with a feeling we’ve had before…our natural state as a child.

And just like when we were kids, this alignment with the present makes it easy to dream, grow and learn at a rapid rate. In a beautiful way, the act of playing connects us to something bigger, a somewhat spiritual experience that encourages our honest-self to join us and then guide us. What felt impossible yesterday now feels meant to be.

I practice this, encourage it and hope that creating something with me feels a little bit light like play.
